Conference Excellence Awards

The CISA National Conference Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of international student individuals and organisations. It is about recognising those people in the community whose service and contributions have made a great impact on international education ranging from local, state or even national level.

The awards are divided into two categories which are the organisational and the individual awards.

CISA National Conference Awards provide a benchmark of excellence and best practice. Join us in celebrating the achievements of the CISA National Conference Awards for 2017.

CISA National Conference Awards

“The Conference Awards showcase the value of being an international student.”

CISA is pleased to witness international students whom make significant achievements and contributions to the international students’ community every year, whether in individuals or as organisations. The sector would like to award and recognize the passion and hard work of these outstanding individuals and organisations through the following categories:

Individual Awards

  • Postgraduate International Student of the Year (Coursework and Research)
      • Eligibility: International Students who are currently enrolled in a postgraduate course. Graduate diploma, graduate certificate, master’s and PhD international students’ can apply.
      • Based on academic and engagement while in Australia
  • Undergraduate International Student of the Year
      • Eligibility: International Students who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate course or have completed the course no later than September 2016.
      • Based on academic and engagement while in Australia
  • VET/TAFE International Student of the Year
    • Eligibility: All International Students who are currently enrolled in an VET/TAFE program/course.
    • Based on academic and engagement while in Australia

Organisation Awards

  • Best International Students Event (open to VET/TAFE, Undergraduate and Postgraduate)
      • Eligibility: Open to all international students’ event that involves either one or more levels (VET/TAFE, undergraduate and/or postgraduate)
      • Based on quality of engagement

Eligibility Criteria for Nomination:

 

Individual Award

  • Must be an international student (non-Australian/ PR) and holds a valid visa for study in Australia
  • Educational status must be the same as the category that one is applying for.
  • Currently studying or completed a course within the last 6 months.
  • Nominations are to be made by the education institution or relevant institution. Students cannot nominate themselves. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
  • Two referees who agreed to be contacted to provide further information on the nominations must be included.
  • Must be available to attend the CISA National Conference from the 3-6 July 2017 in Canberra.

Organisational Award

  • Organisation must be the representative of the international students.
  • Nominations are to be made by the education institution or relevant institution. Students cannot nominate themselves. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
  • Affiliated with CISA or associated with the affiliated
  • Two referees who agreed to be contacted to provide further information on the nominations must be included
  • A representative must be able to attend the CISA National Conference from the 3-6 July 2017 in Canberra.

Nominations:

Nominating a candidate for the awards provides an opportunity to reward and encourage an individual international student or a team that is dedicated towards promoting a more vibrant and diverse multicultural community in Australia. CISA is proud to present these awards to recognise their dedication and contributions to the international student body.

Aside from the honour of being nominated, the process of preparing a nomination often provides valuable character references that the nominee can use in the future.

In addition to the prestige of receiving an award, winners, finalists and their organisations are often able to receive media attention within their local communities, which helps to build their professional reputation.
 

Organisation Awards

International Student Association of the Year
This award is presented to the institution that helped to advocate CISA’s key objectives and take care of the general welfare of international students in the past year.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrate strong advocacy work for international student community within their institution or constituency
  • Enhance international students’ experiences in Australia and support international students’ welfare
  • Opportunities or activities that advocate international students’ welfare, including legal and immigration services as well as others
  • Facilitate connections and new pathways for community participation among international students

Individual Awards

This award is presented to a distinguished International student who has contributed to the international students’ community and been a role model to his/her peers. The award will be presented in three categories:

  • Postgraduate International Student of the Year
  • Undergraduate International Student of the Year
  • VET/ TAFE International Student of the Year

Selection Criteria

  • The nominee should possess personal attributes that would inspire his/her peers.
  • Should demonstrate an achievement or contribution that adds value to the
    international students’ community through:
    – Leadership Role
    – Events and Activities
    – Advocate in the Community
  • High Academic Performance

Presentation Ceremony

The winners will be announced at 2017 CISA Conference held in Canberra. Only the winners in each category will receive a certificate and plaque.

Thursday 6thJuly Award Ceremony at CISA Conference Gala Dinner

Terms & Conditions

  • Application must be completed prior to submission. Any incomplete submission received upon the closing of nominations will not be considered;
  • Nominations must strictly adhere to the word limit within each portion; any excess words will be not be considered as part of the application.
  • Upon submission, CISA Awards Committee reserves the right to use any photos and/or videos provided to be uploaded to CISA Facebook page for voting purposes.
  • No nominations/applications received after the deadline will be taken into consideration.
  • CISA reserves the right and final decision on deciding winners of the award.
